Glee Reboot Just Got 1 Step Closer To Release Date With Original Cast

The Glee reboot just hit a major milestone that fans have been waiting years to hear. Ryan Murphy shared a promising update on the revival’s progress and revealed where things stand with the original cast.

Glee creator Ryan Murphy revealed to Entertainment Tonight that he “just finished” writing a script for a reboot. The creator confirmed he completed the script alongside co-creators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. The trio originally wrote the first two seasons of the Fox musical comedy series.

Murphy shared that he has contacted around 10 original cast members about the project. He described their response as positive, stating they “all were very enthusiastic about the idea.” However, he noted that none of the cast members have read the script yet.

“They all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea,” Murphy told the outlet. He also expressed a personal commitment to writing multiple scripts before sharing them. “I vowed to myself that I wanted to write a couple of them to see what people think, particularly the cast, cause we were very close when we were making it,” he added.

The project comes from 20th Television but has not been set up at a platform yet, according to sources. This development follows Murphy’s comments to People just two months earlier. He had noted the show’s resurgence among younger audiences at that time. “So many young people now watch it. And I’m like, ‘Maybe we should revisit that show,'” he said then.

Glee originally aired on Fox for six seasons from 2009 to 2015. The series followed high school show choir coach Will Schuester and his team of talented outsiders. They pursued a national championship while navigating high school drama through covers of hit songs. Matthew Morrison starred as Schuester in the original run. Murphy, Falchuk and Brennan created the series together. The show earned Murphy two Golden Globe wins during its original run.
