Gio portrayer Giovanni Mazza shared his experience working with Jane Elliot, who plays Tracy on General Hospital. In a recent episode, Gio arrives as Stella and Tracy talk about how family members can annoy one another yet still be supportive. He also said he’s proud to be her great-grandson. Monica’s memorial gave him a new outlook on the family he had been avoiding. Mazza admitted he found working with Elliot intimidating at first. He later described how their connection grew over time.

In a Soap Opera Digest interview, Mazza, who debuted on GH in May 2024, admitted he was “scared” of Elliot. The fear stemmed from the actress’s dedication, presence, and reputation. He added, “Just because she is so iconic and she is so powerful and very focused in her craft. You sort of have to earn her respect to some degree.”

Explaining how their connection shifted, he said, “I can’t pinpoint a specific moment, but earlier this year, we were just doing a scene and I was coming from a very personal place, and she was coming from a very personal place, and we sort of just connected. It was just such an authentic connection — it’s something that actors dream about, that type of connection with their scene partner, and Jane is just one of the greatest scene partners ever!”

Since then, he has looked forward to doing more scenes with her, and together they brainstorm how to make them even better. “And a lot of it comes from just letting go, I think. We don’t have any preconceived notions of how to play certain things,” he added. He described their genuine bond as “one of the greatest joys of my life.”

Mazza gave an example of a powerful scene between Gio and Tracy, when Gio returned to the Quartermaine mansion after learning the truth about his biological parents, Brook Lynn and Dante. He revealed that after watching Elliot’s strong emotional performance, he broke down. “I had no idea that I was going to break down in those scenes. But she was so powerful and so emotional that I couldn’t help it. I think we cut it so that we could go back and film the tag again because I totally lost it for a couple of seconds — like, I genuinely broke down from her acting because it was so beautiful. What I was witnessing was just magic,” he explained.
