General Hospital Is ‘Working On A Story’ To Honor Tristan Rogers And Robert Scorpio, Says Exec

The daytime community suffered many devastating losses in 2025 with the deaths of icons of the genre such as Eileen Fulton (Lisa, As the World Turns). But no show was hit harder than General Hospital, which saw the passing of Port Charles legends Leslie Charleson (Monica), Chris Robinson (Rick Webber), Denise Alexander (Lesley Webber), Tristan Rogers (Robert Scorpio) and Anthony Geary (Luke Spencer). The show built a significant story around the death of Monica after Charleson passed away, and ABC exec Nathan Varni recently shared that GH will also be crafting what he called “a loving montage” to Geary to be included at a future date. Fans have also been quite curious to know how the show intends to recognize the passing of Rogers, who preceded Geary in death by several months.

The Long Good-bye

Rogers last appeared on GH in July 2025, when he made a surprise appearance in conjunction with the exit of his on-screen daughter, Sofia Mattsson. Her character, Sasha, had been revealed to be the product of Robert’s storied, on-again/off-again love affair with Holly Sutton (Emma Samms). In last summer’s storyline, Sasha left town with Daisy, the baby she had recently welcomed with Michael (Rory Gibson), after some unsettling events took place with the newborn inside the Quartermaine mansion, courtesy of Willow (Katelyn MacMullen). Jason (Steve Burton) escorted Sasha and Daisy to France, where Robert and Holly were living, and Robert enjoyed a warm reunion with his daughter and granddaughter.

The day before this brief appearance kicked off, Rogers released a statement via friend and publicist Anthony Turk revealing that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer. Sadly, he passed away on August 15 at the age of 79. At the time, GH Executive Frank Valentini shared a statement in which he said, “The entire General Hospital family is heartbroken to hear of Tristan Rogers’ passing. Tristan has captivated our fans for 45 years and Port Charles will not be the same without him (or Robert Scorpio). I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to his family and friends during this difficult time. Tristan was a one-of-a-kind talent and will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.”

The actor originated the role of superspy Robert in 1980 and was one of the biggest stars in the soap world during its 1980s heyday. He left the show in 1992, but returned for short stints (in 1994, 2006, 2008 and 2012) before coming back for longer stretches, the most recent of which had lasted from 2019-2024, when Robert and Holly were sent off the canvas together for a happily-ever-after that delighted their legions of fans. Robert continues to be mentioned on screen, most recently in December 2025, when he was referenced as having shifted locations from France to his native Australia.

But according to Varni, GH does have a plan to ultimately pay tribute to the beloved character. In response to a fan who wondered if the show would be acknowledging Roger’s passing, Varni wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Since the character hasn’t passed away on screen, writers are working on a story to weave into the show later in 2026 for a proper send off.”
