When Brad Ingelsby developed Mare of Easttown for HBO, he did so with a single story in mind. Over the course of one season, Kate Winslet’s titular detective dealt with a murder case that divided her small town and forced her to face the demons of her past and present. The series took off like wildfire and became one of the most talked-about titles of that spring, with Winslet, Julianne Nicholson, and Evan Peters nabbing Emmys for their work in the whodunnit drama. As with most TV projects that audiences just can’t get enough of, questions immediately began swirling about the possibility of a second season. For years, Ingelsby dodged the question, putting it off and standing by his decision that Mare of Easttown would — and for that matter could — only be a one-season wonder. However, the series creator may be beginning to pivot from his original decision.
