Four people die after fire spreads through house in Bootle, Merseyside

Four people have died in a fire at a house in Merseyside overnight.

Four casualties ‘showing no signs of life’ were found at the semi-detached house in Stone Square in Bootle, Sefton.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called to the blaze at about 3.45am this morning.

The ‘intense fire’ at the property ‘spread very rapidly’, Chief Fire Officer Nick Searle said, and the house was ‘well alight’ when crews arrived.

Another person was found outside the property and taken to hospital.

Eight firefighters wearing breather apparatus went inside the house to find people and fight the fire.

On Tuesday morning the street was cordoned off by police and fire officers could be seen knocking on doors of neighbouring homes.
