Former General Hospital star Kelly Monaco has shared a major personal milestone, revealing that she has been sober from alcohol for more than six months. The actress opened up about the achievement on Instagram, where she received support from fans and many of her former daytime television colleagues.

Monaco celebrated reaching six months and seven days of sobriety by sharing a screenshot from the I Am Sober tracking app.

The 50-year-old actress kept her caption short and reflective, writing, “Now the whole 6/7 thing makes sense! #duces ???❤.”

Her former General Hospital co-star Lexi Ainsworth, who played her on-screen sister Kristina Davis, responded to the post by saying she was “so proud” of Monaco.

The update gives her fans a rare glimpse into Monaco’s life away from the spotlight. The actress has kept a relatively low profile since leaving General Hospital, where she spent more than two decades playing Sam McCall.

Her sobriety milestone also comes shortly after she celebrated her mother Carmina’s 70th birthday with family.

How Kelly Monaco’s departure from General Hospital unfolded

Monaco’s latest update follows a major transition in her professional career. In August 2024, reports confirmed that General Hospital producers had decided to write Sam McCall off the show after Monaco spent 21 years on the daytime drama and appeared in more than 2,300 episodes.

Her exit sparked an immediate backlash among longtime viewers. Fans launched online petitions and social media campaigns using the hashtag #SaveSamMcCall, urging network executives to reconsider the decision.

Monaco also voiced confusion regarding her sudden departure at the time, writing on Instagram that the decision “still doesn’t make any sense.”

Sam’s final storyline aired in October 2024. The character died unexpectedly following a liver donation surgery, with subsequent episodes revealing that Cyrus Renault had secretly poisoned her with digitalis.

Since leaving the soap, Monaco has largely remained out of the public eye while celebrating key personal milestones with family and friends.
