Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao 2 Set to Beat Jake Paul’s 108 Million Record, Per Promoter

After the biggest boxing match in 2010s, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are on a collision course for a rematch. And according to one promoter, the goal isn’t just victory, it’s toppling the 108 million viewer benchmark set by Jake Paul. While the bout is yet to happen, one of the promoters explains how the goal would be achieved.

“Massive. More than what we imagined,” said Jas Mathur in an interview with MMA Junkie. “It’ll beat (108) million. One-hundred percent. You’ve just got to look at facts, right? Just look at how many people live in Asia, in all of Asia. Look at Manny’s cult following. Let’s just look at Manny. Put Floyd to the side for a minute. Floyd is an international icon, too. But just look at Manny and look at Asia.

Now look at those numbers and how many people would tune in. Look at the Netflix subscriptions in Asia and how many subscribers across every country in Asia… You start adding all of this together, those numbers are going to go up. They’re going to go way up.”

Netflix entered the combat sports world by promoting Jake Paul‘s bout against Mike Tyson in November 2024. And as expected, the fight drew massive attention with average live viewership peaking at 108 million on the entertainment platform. Surely, Tyson’s pull was one critical thing in that matchup.

The boxing legend was returning for a professional fight after 19 years. And the new-gen combat sports fans who missed watching Tyson were glued to the live broadcast. Similarly, the same category of people, along with the dedicated fans, can be expected to watch Floyd Mayweather fight Manny Pacquiao.

However, there is one difference when it comes to the fanbase. With Pacquiao in the picture, he also pulls in the South and Southeast Asian people. As such, ‘PacMan’ is the only Asian boxer in history to win world titles in eight different weight divisions. And the promoter, Jas Mathur, is clearly banking on that factor to break the 108 million viewership record held by the Paul vs. Tyson fight.

Now, historically, both Mayweather and Pacquiao have been massive crowd-pullers and revenue generators. Take their first fight, for example. The MGM Grand in Las Vegas was the venue, which reportedly grossed over $600 million in revenue and 4.6 million in pay-per-view buys.

Speaking of the outcome, it was Mayweather who clinched a unanimous decision victory in the first encounter in 2015. Will the result repeat in the rematch? Only time will tell. But according to a former world champion, there is one reason that could be a critical factor in the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2 bout.

Amir Khan picks Manny Pacquiao to beat Floyd Mayweather

The rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao is set to go down on Sept. 19 at the Las Vegas Sphere. Yes, the same venue where Noche UFC 2024 was hosted and received recognition from the Emmy Award for pulling off a spectacle. But this time, a different setup wherein a ring will take the place of an octagon.

However, the center of attraction is, of course, two of the legends colliding. While Mayweather will be returning to a professional bout after eight years, ‘PacMan’ will come out for his 74th professional fight. Apart from that, there is only a two-year age gap between them. Despite that, former WBA (super) light welterweight Amir Khan picks Pacquiao to win and has also explained his reasons for it.

“I like Manny Pacquiao in the second one, because I think Mayweather’s slowing down a little bit, said Khan in an interview. “Age catches up on you, and I think with Manny always looking in good shape – obviously he’s not partying, not drinking; Mayweather’s always partying, chilling, enjoying himself – I think there’s a different way of living for both fighters.

Mayweather’s still like a 20-year-old kid, whereas Manny Pacquiao’s very intelligent and he’s on the right path. I’ve got Manny Pacquiao winning that fight. But who knows? Mayweather always ends up pulling it off. But I feel that Manny Pacquiao [is] the favourite.”

‘Money’ hasn’t fought since the 2024 exhibition bout against John Gotti III. But Pacquiao has been quite active, and just in his last fight, he faced Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight title. So, ring rust could be a factor here, as highlighted by Khan.
