Throughout his career Gerard Butler has played the kind of guy who just doesn’t break, like the guy will fight through anything, save the president, crash land a plane and still walk away without a scratch. And usually it works because he’s got that gruff energy people like to see, but in Kandahar it’s not really that; it’s slower and heavier and he’s kind of broken down, and honestly it’s one of the more interesting roles he’s done in years. Which makes it all the more disappointing that most people missed it in theaters.
