A bone-chilling scream. A murder mystery. This year’s most anticipated soap wedding. Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) getting his marching orders, Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) in danger, a plot to get rid of Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon ) for good. It’s all going on in Corrie…

It’s official. Corrie’s most ambitious and anticipated murder mystery kicked off in yesterday’s episode.

With five villains pushed to their most nefarious, the stage is set for death in Weatherfield.

The episode was jam-packed with enough clues and teases to fill an entire forum of soap conspiracy theories. Miss any details?

Don’t worry. Metro’s got you covered. Let’s break down the action baddie by baddie and see if we can guess which Cobbles wrong’un has eaten their last hotpot…

Jodie Ramsey

This bunny boiling baddie has been acting even stranger than usual, and that is saying something. Her vengeful vendetta against her sister Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) took a back seat last episode thanks to the arrival of Olivia, one of the children she used to look after during her time as a nanny.

Unfortunately, this isn’t Mary Poppins, and the little tyke was less interested in a catchy musical number and more interested in trying to steal a mysterious hard drive from Jodie’s trinket collection.

After Jodie kicked her out, she told two thugs in a fancy car that she was unable to get the hard drive back. And they promised to whatever was necessary to Jodie in order to get it themselves.

Understandably, Jodie spent this episode jumping at her shadow and looking for intruders in the garden… who turned out to be just David and Kirk setting up fireworks for Swarla’s wedding.

When Shona caught her sister peeking through the blinds, she finally called Jodie out on her bizarre paranoia..

When Shona asked if this was to do with her abusive ex (who unbeknownst to her, Jodie had previously made up), Jodie confesses that yes, it is. This man was going to kill her, so she stole the hard drive as an insurance policy. But he caught her trying to escape and he got bundled in the back of the van… presumably the same van belonging to her captor from Corriedale, Emmerdale’s scariest butler Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough). Jodie’s lucky he’s got bigger fish to fry at the moment…

But now she’s brought trouble to the Platts’ door. Horrified, Shona told Jodie in no uncertain terms to give the scary man his hard drive back. Jodie insists that hard drive is the only thing keeping her alive, so Shona suggests another plan – Jodie needs to go.

Dismayed, Jodie asked if Shona was kicking her out. Shona replied in true Shona style. ‘Damn right I am! For your sake as much as my family’s!

Those men pursuing Jodie mean business. Did Shona just seeal her sister’s fate?

Carl Webster

Carl finally ran out of second chances. (Picture: ITV)

The Worst Webster was even less popular on the Street than usual, after he wrecked the Chariot Hotel’s best suite to deliberately sabotage Lisa and Carla’s wedding.

His little tantrum did not go down well with Debbie, who summoned him to the Chariot Hotel room… to give him an envelope filled with cash. While Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) and Abi Webster (Sally Carman-Duttine) can’t understand why she’s being so generous to her utter moocher of a son, Debbbie assures them it’s the last money Carl will ever get from her.

She handed him the envelope. ‘Take it and go.’ She told him. ‘I don’t care where. Jut make sure you don’t come back.’

Carl couldn’t quite believe that she was finally cutting those apron strings. Which is fair enough really. Given the fact that Debbie went to prison for him and took the rap for his drunk-driving that killed Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), Carl probably expected infinite chance. But Debbie was adamant that she was done with him forever.

‘Forever’s a long time’ Debbie mused. ‘Which of course I don’t have. But what time I don’t want to be poisoned by you. So yeah. I suppose this is it. The last goodbye.’

Saving face, Carl takes the cash and claims can’t wait to leave this miserable cesspit behind. Abi jumped in and snapped that Carl should just crawl back under his rock and leave them all in peace. This triggered Carl, who tore into his former affair partner. ‘Peace!’ He sneered. ‘You left your husband a gibbering wreck! You got two kids on the other side of the world and one in the ground! So you enjoy your peace!’

Carl knows just how to hurt Abi. She destroyed her marriage to Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) by jumping into bed with Carl.

If Carl turns out to be the murder victim, I’d say that little outburst puts Abi near the top of the suspects list.

Debbie tells him that his vile words are exactly why he needs to go. He’s ruined too many lies. ‘While I’ve reconciled myself with never seeing you again’, I wish you no harm. Debbie insisted. ‘So go on. And go well.’

She gives him a St.Christophers medal, a piece of jewellery traditionally worn given to travellers before a long journey. This breaks Carl’s heart. He’s left cut to the core by Debbie’s final rejection… but not before Abi gives him the mother of all death stares.

Theo Silverton

Theo’s abuse has made Todd’s life a living hell. (Picture: ITV)

One might be forgiven for thinking that the sinister scaffolder didn’t make an appearance in this episode. After all, now that Todd’s made an official complaint to the police about Theo’s abuse, the vile bully isn’t allowed anywhere near him. But you just KNOW it won’t be that simple…

On her way to Swarla’s wedding reception, Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) saw Todd with his suitcase packed ready to visit his mum Eileen and brother Jason in Thailand. As she wished him bon voyage, the camera panned to the roof…

… where a sinister scaffolder, whose face was obscured by his helmet and a conveniently carried plank of wood bent down to examine the bedroom window, almost as if he was trying to break in.

Is this Theo, about to pay Todd one last visit?

It’s worth noting that Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) mentions to Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) that Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) is not at the wedding because she wants to say goodbye to Todd. If Theo is breaking into the flat… will Summer get to there in time to save the closest thing she’s got left to a dad?

Megan Walsh

Now her grooming has been exposed, Megan’s days are numbered. (Picture: ITV)

The manipulative child predator may not have made a direct appearance in this episode, but her spectre loomed large. Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley)shared Megan’s sickening brag about sleeping with Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) to a horrified Leanne (Jane Danson) and Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor).

While Eva can’t bring herself to tell Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker) about Megan’s ‘confession’ for fear of what he’ll do, Toyah points on that they still don’t have any tangible proof. Suddenly, Leanne has a Eureka moment and declares she knows just how to deal with Megan once and for all.

Let’s hope it’s better than their last plan, where their three-woman pile on Megan resulted in assault charges against Eva.

But should they fail, there’s another character who could take matters into their own hands.

Maggie Driscoll

Everyone’s favourite husband-killing sharp-tongued Irish landlady felt conspicuous by her absence in this episode, especially given how she already declined to be part of the girls’ previous plan to confront Megan.

But Maggie’s already attacked Megan once. She’s determined to protect her family at any cost. She pushed her own husband down the stairs just to keep her affair under wraps. If whatever Eva, Leanne and Toyah are planning to do to Megan goes south, will Maggie take matters into her own blood-stained hands?

Now we’ve covered all the baddies, it’s time to address two baddies in a very different sese of the word.

It all happens amid Carla and Lisa‘s wedding

They did it! (Picture: ITV)

It happened. Swarla got hitched. The soap wedding of the century almost didn’t happen because Carl wrecked the bridal suit and caused water damage to the hotel by leaving the taps on. But thanks to Debbie and the girls from Underworld, Swarla did go to the ball after all.

Betsy has a wedding pep talk with Lisa, gushing how proud she is of Carla and Lisa for the way they’ve handled their struggles. It’s clear she means Lisa’s screwball ex Becky Swain, but Lisa shuts her down. ‘Not today Bets. That subject’s banned.’

Quite right too. The episode was packed with heartfelt moments, mostly supplied by Roy, who gave Carla Hayley’s favourite bracelet as something old, something borrowed and something blue. Now all she needed was something new. ‘I’ve got that right beside me’, Carla said, smiling at Lisa. Aww..

Just when Carla’s day couldn’t get anymore perfect, the burglar alarm goes off in Underworld. Annoyed it’s happening on today of all days, Carla charges in with Lisa in tow… only to find a full wedding reception underway. Or as Laura Bolton puts it ‘a bunch of crumblies getting smashed in a knicker factory’. They say romance is dead.

Then the couple were served champagne on the balcony, and stared into the nights’ sky as fireworks shot up from the Platts’ garden in celebration… and then Lisa heard a chilling scream.

She wondered what it was, but Carla insisted it was just foxes.

We know different.

That scream was Betsy Swain, discovering a body… just as the flashforward episode grimly prophesised earlier this year.

But whose? Tune in next week to find out!
