Amid the wave of content leaving Netflix next month, all seasons of a popular vampire-horror series are also exiting the streaming giant’s catalog. The series is an adaptation of a character inspired by Bram Stoker’s iconic Gothic novel.
Van Helsing leaves Netflix in April
Netflix subscribers will not be able to stream Van Helsing Seasons 1-5 on the platform from Thursday, April 16, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix). The series is based on Zenescope Entertainment’s Helsing graphic novels. It focuses on Vanessa Van Helsing, the daughter of legendary vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing.
The show begins with Vanessa waking up from a coma in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by supernatural forces. Thanks to her rare blood composition, she possesses the ability to turn vampires back into humans. Subsequent seasons pit Vanessa and her allies against greater threats.
Neil LaBute developed Van Helsing for Syfy, which premiered on July 31, 2016. After Season 3 in 2018, he stepped away from the role of showrunner. Following his exit, one of the show’s lead writers, Jonathan Walker, succeeded him. Three years later, Syfy aired the series finale, titled “Novissima Solis,” on June 25, 2021. Cumulatively, the show comprises 65 episodes.
Kelly Overton headlines the show as the titular character. The supporting cast includes Jonathan Scarfe as Axel, Missy Peregrym as Scarlett, Christopher Heyerdahl as Samuel, David Cubitt as John, Vincent Gale as Phil, and Rukiya Bernard as Sarah, among others.
Van Helsing received mixed reviews. On Metacritic, it currently holds a weighted average score of 54 from critics and 5.1 from users. Meanwhile, it has an average user approval rating of 57% across all five seasons on Rotten Tomatoes.
For the uninitiated, Van Helsing, aka Abraham Van Helsing, is a character from Bram Stoker’s 1897 gothic horror novel Dracula. He was introduced as a Dutch doctor, professor, lawyer, philosopher, scientist, and expert on vampires. The character also inspired the 2004 Hugh Jackman-led Van Helsing film, which is just one of the many pieces of media that have appeared since the novel’s publication.
