The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITX.
Coverage of the European Qualifier meant Emmerdale fans have had to wait an extra day to discover the aftermath of the gorge jump.
Monday’s episode ended with Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) watching on in horror as John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) threw himself and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) from the cliff face.
Aaron had discovered the truth about John and was trying to get inside his head, hoping he could convince his husband into telling the police about his many crimes.
Just before the credits rolled, Robert burst onto the scene. To John, it looked as though his brother and Aaron had conspired against him.
He phoned the police, but claimed that his husband’s ex had turned up and was threatening to kill them both.
As far as John was concerned, he couldn’t bare to hand himself into the police knowing that Aaron and Robert would reunite. ‘If I can’t have you, no one can’, John said as he grabbed Aaron and threw himself backwards.
After calling 999, Robert raced down the hill to see Aaron and check if he was alive. He was showing no sign of waking up, causing a devastated Robert to hold him and desperately hope something would change.
The cries from his distant brother were enough to wake John up though. He opened his eyes and glanced at Robert, but was too weak to do anything.

John and Aaron were rushed into hospital. In the waiting room, Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt), Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) all began to wonder what really went on at the gorge.
Robert tried to tell Victoria everything about John, but she couldn’t manage to believe him. This, along with Chas’ insistency that Robert did something out of jealousy, meant his future had suddenly become incredibly bleak.
The updates on John and Aaron were delivered, but you’re going to have to either head to ITVX to find out their fates, or check the episode out tonight.
Chas was absolutely distraught at the entire situation, and still believed that Robert was the reason her son was in a hospital bed.
Due to the matter, and the fact two police calls had been made, it wasn’t long until a detective arrived. He came to arrest Robert on suspicion of attempted murder, and no amount of begging was going to stop Robert from once again leaving via a police car.

Robert will face questioning in upcoming episodes but this time round, there’s a chance a piece of evidence will work in his favour.
In the village, Ross Barton (Michael Parr) told Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) to text Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) and tell him that Aaron is in hospital. He believed that Mack may not come home for his wife, but he’d definitely come home for Aaron.
If Aaron fell with Mackenzie’s phone in his pocket, the police will find it.
Working on the assumption Robert will tell them about Mackenzie as well, finding the phone will add weight to the theory that he’s telling the truth about John – not to mention the device will be covered in John’s fingerprints.
Speaking of Mack.

He briefly appeared in the instalment tonight, and it appears the beloved character doesn’t have a lot of hope left.
He hasn’t used the syringe, but was seen shouting for help. The problem this time though, is that no-one is near the bunker or the cottage.
If John survives this, will he continue to let Mackenzie suffer underground?
Or will someone else come across the entrance to the bunker?
