Easton Cowan’s bid to earn a spot on the Toronto Maple Leafs roster will hit a key stage this weekend.
Cowan is one of the headliners on the Leafs’ rookie camp roster for the 2025 Prospect Showdown in Montreal, which was announced Tuesday.
The 20-year-old winger led the London Knights to a Memorial Cup title last season and was the OHL’s most outstanding player in 2023-24.
The Leafs picked Cowan late in the first round (28th overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft. This year, Cowan is old enough to play for the AHL’s Marlies if he is not with the Leafs.
The rookie Leafs team also includes 2024 first-round pick Ben Danford, a 19-year-old defenceman with the Oshawa Generals. Danford is not eligible to play for the Marlies this season.
Fifteen goaltenders, nine defencemen and two goalies are on the roster for games against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday and Montreal Canadiens on Sunday. The team will have on-ice sessions Thursday and Friday in Toronto before heading to Montreal.
