EastEnders star Rita Simons undergoes life-changing surgery in hospital as she admits ‘I’m stressed’

Actor Rita Simons is in the hospital to have life-changing surgery after previously announcing that she was preparing to have a breast reduction.

The EastEnders legend, who famously played Roxy Mitchell in the BBC soap opera between 2007 and 2017, first shared the news with her social media followers last month on March 23.

However, in new updates, Rita has revealed today (April 6) is the day of her operation after admitting she was “stressed”.

On her Instagram Story earlier today, Rita shared a selfie of herself in her hospital gown.

“I remembered my surgery … eventually,” she captioned the pic after getting the date wrong over the weekend.

In the following post, the soap star added: “Downsizing the Easter eggs.”

On Friday (April 3), Rita underwent more prep for her surgery, and admitted her “hormones have been so all over the place”.

“I fully thought surgery was this weekend… it’s actually Monday. Of course it is,” she wrote.

“I’ve been a bit stressed (you don’t say!) my hormones have been all over the place, HRT hasn’t been behaving… and giving up nicotine hasn’t exactly helped,” Rita continued.

“So I got proper bloods done (full hormone panel) and a glutathione IV — going into surgery as strong as I can. If you’re on HRT, you’ll know how quickly things can feel off when levels aren’t right… this is where I’m at. Also one to watch… I always get a bit blue a few days after a general anaesthetic — so this is me getting ahead of it.”

‘I’m always mindful of checking my breasts for any changes’

In an Instagram post a few weeks back, the 49-year-old star visited a Pall Mall Medical hospital, where she revealed she was preparing to have her breast reduction surgery next week.

In the first slide, she can be seen lying down as her doctor did a check on her. For the following slide, Rita was all smiles as she was captured posing with the doctor.

“Pre-op checks today… Thank you so much to Pall Mall Medical and the wonderful Mr Ramachandran Prasad for such an easy experience,” she wrote in her caption.

“In prep for my breast reduction next week, I had a scan to make sure everything’s ok. Being post-hysterectomy and on HRT, I’m always mindful of checking my breasts for any changes. I already have cysts, so we wanted to be extra safe and do an ultrasound,” Rita continued.

She revealed she was “all good” and that her doctor is “happy”, sharing that she “couldn’t have asked for a smoother, quicker experience”.

‘It’s going to be a life changer’

Fans rushed to the comments section to offer their support for next week’s operation.
