Eagle-eyed EastEnders fans reckon they’ve found a key clue about the identity of Zoe Slater’s (Michelle Ryan) attacker.

Earlier this week, the BBC soap legend returned to our screens and a number of flashbacks gave us an update on the last 20 years of her life.

After being shot by either Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) or Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) – who were brawling over who got their hands on the gun – she was left fighting for her life.

Zoe faded in and out of consciousness, and we were taken back to 2006.

We learnt that she had a traumatic labour, giving birth to twins. Her baby girl was critically ill and she didn’t stick around the hospital to learn whether she survived.

As for the boy, Zoe asserted that he had ‘bad blood’ and wanted him placed up for adoption.

In the years that have followed she’s desperately searched for her son, exhausting all of her finances on a dodgy PI who claimed that he could help her.

Rather surprisingly, she bumped into Max Branning (Jake Wood) in a bar and he offered the 5k she needed to get crucial information on his whereabouts.

The private investigator, Greg Dolan (Dean Williamson), wasn’t willing to tell her everything without even more cash.

Max waited outside in the car for her to return, while things turned heated inside.

Greg said that they could come to an alternative agreement if she didn’t have the money, and began to force himself onto her. Quick-thinking, she picked up a lampshade and smacked him several times, rendering him unconscious.

Zoe then told Max what she did, and the two parted ways.

Who is Greg Dolan in EastEnders?

Honestly, we’re not sure. Greg claims to have lived next door to Zoe’s son during his youth, and remembered him kicking a football over the fence and cutting his knee on the pavement outside.

Whether or not he’s telling the truth, we don’t know.

But some fans think the clue could be in his surname – Dolan.

The very same surname that Zoe’s estranged twin brother was given following his adoption in the Irish fishing village of Redwater.

‘Oh here’s one for you to chew over…. The guy that Zoe hit was called Greg Dolan…guess who he shares a surname with…!’ wrote the Albert Square: After Dark podcast on X.

Who is Dermott Dolan, and how is he connected to Zoe?

Long-term viewers will of course know that Zoe spent most of her childhood and teenage years believing that mum Kat (Jessie Wallace) was her sister, when in fact she was her mother.

It transpired that Kat had been abused by her uncle and fallen pregnant, with her parents deciding to bring up Zoe as their own.

However, many years later, Kat discovered that she’d actually had twins. The turmoil of the situation meant that she had no idea of baby Luke’s existence.

She and husband Alfie (Shane Richie) struck lucky when they became millionaires with thanks to a scratch-card win, and they decided to move to Spain.

During a short return to Walford – that sadly coincided with the death of her father Charlie (Derek Martin) – sister Belinda (Carli Norris) noted that she remembered a trip to the Irish fishing village of Redwater in her youth, and this could lead to Kat discovering Luke’s whereabouts.

Little did she realise, Luke, now named Dermott, was not a nice man…

What was Kat and Alfie: Redwater?

The spin-off series aired in 2017, following the couple’s journey to Ireland.

Standalone from EastEnders, the characters gave very few references to their previous life in Albert Square, apart from an ongoing plot that saw Alfie diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Kat met vicar Dermott and we viewers learnt that he was a killer.

He was also responsible for causing a boating accident at the conclusion of the series, which saw Kat being dragged beneath the water – apparently to her death.

Meanwhile, Alfie headed into theatre for his operation and seemed to die on the operating table.

So, what do you think – are Dermott and Greg connected?
