Dwayne Johnson & Jack Ryan Boss’ New TV Show Gives Off Strong James Cameron Vibes

ABC is developing a new show with Dwayne Johnson‘s production company and Jack Ryan‘s showrunner. The crime drama will be set in New Orleans, a city surrounded by water, and is set to deliver a James Cameron-esque deep-sea adventure.

According to Deadline, Jack Ryan’s showrunner Steven Kane is currently working on Dive. Reportedly, 20th Television and Johnson’s production studio, Seven Bucks, are also attached to the project. The production company’s credits include Red One, Black Adam, Jumanji, Ballers, Young Rock, and The Titan Games. Further, executive producer Kristina Sorenson has also joined the project.

However, Dive’s casting is still pending, as it is in early development, according to the source. In a recent interview, Kane alluded to the upcoming show, saying, “If this is successful, it could be franchised.”

What is Dive about

ABC is known for airing shows based on emergency services, such as The Rookie and 9-1-1. The upcoming project is set in a similar tone, with a change in the backdrop setting. According to the source, Dive will follow an elite team of police divers and investigators who solve crimes that begin where the surface ends, which is underwater.

The show will mark Steven Kane’s return to ABC, after previously working as a writer for an episode of J.J. Abrams’ Alias. Apart from working as a showrunner for the fourth and final season of Prime Video’s Jack Ryan, he also served as showrunner for Paramount+’s adaptation of Halo.

Kane also has writing credits for the two adaptations. His other writing credits include The Last Ship, The Last Ship: Dr. Scott’s Video Journal, The Closer, NCIS, Without a Trace, and Major Crimes. As of now, he is also developing an international thriller project set in Europe and a series based on his upcoming graphic novel.

Since Dive is still in the early stages of development, no major details have been revealed yet. However, more details, such as casting news and additional crew information, are expected soon.
