There’s a reason we keep coming back to the John Hughes formula of beloved teenage comedies. Not only are these coming-of-age stories a source of comfort, but they also offer a sense of nostalgia that taps into feelings we’ve all experienced. While Bobby Farrelly’s latest road trip comedy, Driver’s Ed, wears its ‘80s influences proudly with shades of The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, it doesn’t always live up to the potential this genre offers. It’s exactly this element that makes so much of the film fall flat, despite its good intentions.
