Dragon Ball has had a number of ups and downs throughout the franchise's long and celebrated history. Its golden era came during the serialization of Akira Toriyama's original manga series, as well as the airing of the 1986 and 1989 anime adaptations. What followed was a down period, which saw the release of 1996's Dragon Ball GT and little else.
