Mookie Betts will miss the Los Angeles Dodgers World Series rematch with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Los Angeles placed Betts on the injured list after on Sunday he was forced to exit Saturday’s game against the Washington Nationals in the first inning.
An MRI later revealed that the eight-time all-star has a right oblique strain.
Betts was starting at shortstop and batting third when he drew a walk in the first and eventually scored on Freddie Freeman’s two-run double. He was replaced in the field by Miguel Rojas before the bottom of the inning. The Dodgers went on to win 10-5.
The 33-year-old Betts is coming off a 2025 season in which he played 150 games, slashing .258/.326/.406 with 20 home runs while shifting to shortstop on a full-time basis.
Betts had struggled to open 2026, batting .179 with just five hits in 32 trips to the plate.
In his place, the Dodgers recalled infielder Hyeseong Kim.
Kim, 27, appeared in 71 games with Los Angeles in 2025, posting a .699 OPS.
He began the 2026 season in triple-A and went 9-for-26 in his first six games.
The Dodgers will finish their series in Washington on Sunday afternoon before flying to Toronto for a three-game series with the Blue Jays, which begins on Monday (7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on Sportsnet).
