Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf has made a habit of giving NFL disciplinary officials extra work this season, and Thursday Night Football against the Cleveland Browns added one more entry to that growing list. NFL insider Ari Meirov, who covers the league for The 33rd Team, broke down exactly what happened on X.
“Steelers WR DK Metcalf got a 15-yard taunting penalty for tossing the ball toward a Browns player and saying something to him,” Meirov posted on X.
Metcalf can be expected to pay a fine afterward.
The flag came early in the game, on a third-and-3 snap when quarterback Aaron Rodgers found Metcalf for a 7-yard gain. The WR was then flagged for taunting, with officials levying a 15-yard penalty that moved Pittsburgh back to its own 35-yard line.
Metcalf unfortunately has a history of penalties. The team isn’t in a great position either, having racked up three penalties so far for 25 yards against the Browns.
Pittsburgh eventually scored on that drive, with Rodgers finding WR Roman Wilson for a 12-yard touchdown. But Pittsburgh is on the back end now, with the Browns leading the game 14-7 after a missed field goal by Chris Boswell.
