Disney's live-action remakes of its animated classics were once sure-fire blockbusters. Movies like Jon Favreau's The Lion King, Kenneth Branagh's Cinderella, and Bill Condon's Beauty and the Beast made a fortune at the box office, and it soon seemed as if the company would translate every last animated feature in the Disney vaults into another live-action chart topper. However, the trend has become decidedly hit-and-miss in recent years. Sure bets like Snow White and Moana have disappointed, but last year's Lilo & Stitch proved there was still some life in the genre. Now, Disney is preparing to unfurl another remake of one of their modern classics.
