Disney Censored Andrew Santino’s New Comedy Special Over This Joke

Ahead of his upcoming Hulu comedy special’s debut, stand-up comedian and actor Andrew Santino opened up about the disagreement he had with Disney over one of his jokes, which ended up getting censored on the final cut. Titled White Noise, the special will be available for streaming starting on September 12, exclusively on Hulu and Disney+.

What joke from Andrew Santino’s comedy special did Disney censor?

During a recent interview with Variety, Santino confirmed that he got into “a little bit of war” with Disney after the studio wasn’t happy with his hilarious joke about Disney adults. Even though his bit about Disney adults still made it into the special, he revealed that it had already been “manipulated” for the final cut.

“Candidly, we went back and forth, and they didn’t really enjoy having that stuff in there. We found a happy medium, and I was able to keep the jokes in there, but [the jokes] were manipulated,” Santino shared. “I’m not going to lie: They definitely changed the jokes. I was not stoked about that. We got into a little bit of a war. They did not want those jokes in there. My argument was: I joke about a lot of other stuff in the special that’s controversial. I don’t think joking about people who like Disney as grown-ups is a controversial take, but they disagreed.”

According to Santino, the original version of his joke was “funnier” because “it peeled open a little bit more than what you saw, on people going to Disney without kids and adults who wear Disney clothing.” For the special to still get aired, they found a way to keep the joke by changing it in a way that’s best for both parties.

He continued, “So we found a medium. We said we’d find a way to manipulate the jokes in a way that works for everybody. [Disney] got kind of what they wanted, and I tried to get the best of what I wanted. This is a compromise in the modern world of media.”

White Noise is written, performed, and executive produced by Andrew Santino. Additional executive producers include Peyton Manning and Jamie Horowitz for Omaha Productions, and Brandon Dermer, who also directed the special.
