Didi Hamann believes just two teams are ‘capable’ of taking the Premier League title from Liverpool this season.

Liverpool won the Premier League by ten points last season and appear well placed for back-to-back titles following a stunning summer transfer window.

The Anfield club spent over £400m on new signings, bolstering Arne Slot’s squad with the likes of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong.

Arne Slot’s side have not been at their best in the early stages of the new campaign but are still the only Premier League team boasting a perfect record after three games.

Hamann views Arsenal as the ‘biggest threat’ to Liverpool’s title defence and says Chelsea are the other team ‘capable’ of challenging for the title.

Arsenal won their first two games of the season before suffering a 1-0 defeat to title rivals Liverpool before the international break.

Like Liverpool, the Gunners enjoyed a productive transfer window, adding the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke to Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are currently second in the Premier League having taken seven points from three consecutive London derbies.

Enzo Maresca’s side won the Club World Cup over the summer and have been strengthened by over ten new summer signings.

With Hamann backing Chelsea to join Liverpool and Arsenal in a ‘three-horse race’ for the title, he has already played down Manchester City’s chances of reclaiming the Premier League trophy.

Man City brushed aside Wolves in their opening game but a fragility that was frequently seen last season returned in the subsequent defeats to Tottenham and Brighton.

‘Arsenal are the biggest threat to Liverpool in the title race,’ Hamann told CoinPoker.

‘With the signings of Eberechi Eze and Piero Hincapie, they now have a fantastic squad. They fielded a brilliant team against Liverpool even with Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard not able to start.

‘I expect Arsenal to be the main contender. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if Chelsea turned it into a three-horse race.

‘They are a dangerous side, capable of winning six, seven, or eight games in a row.

‘I don’t believe Manchester City can do that, but Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea are the only teams I think are capable of such a run.’

Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool return to action on Sunday with a trip to Turf Moor to face newly-promoted Burnley.

Arsenal, runners-up for the past three seasons, welcome Nottingham Forest to the Emirates Stadium in the visitors’ first game since Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked.

In-form Chelsea make the short trip across west London to Brentford while Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City play host to local rivals Manchester United.

Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe recently delivered his verdict on the Premier League title race, surprisingly tipping Liverpool to fall short.
