Theme park Alton Towers has permanently closed its World Of David Walliams attraction with immediate effect.

The theme park has announced that, as of today, the section of the resort will be closed ‘following a regular review of rides and attractions’ as the 2026 season comes to an end.

‘As we are no longer in the main season, guests are encouraged to check the Alton Towers Resort website and app for the latest attraction opening information ahead of their visit,’ Merlin Entertainments said in a statement to Metro.

Attractions at the Walliams-themed area of the park included Gangsta Granny: The Ride, a 360° special effects attraction, as well as rides called Raj’s Bouncy Bottom Burp, Royal Carousel and Flavio’s Fabulous Fandango.

The attraction, which was based on Walliams’ best-selling children’s books, first opened at the theme park in 2021.

The park is set to announce what will replace the attraction at a later date.

Last year Walliams, 55, was dropped by his book publisher HarperCollins and later from Waterstone’s Children’s Book Festival.

The TV star, known for appearing in comedy shows including Come Fly With Me and Little Britain alongside Matt Lucas, is also an award-winning children’s author whose books have sold more than 60 million copies globally.

The publisher said that ‘after careful consideration’, they would not be releasing any new titles from Walliams.

They added: ‘HarperCollins takes employee wellbeing extremely seriously and has processes in place for reporting and investigating concerns. To respect the privacy of individuals, we do not comment on internal matters.’

Walliams has written books including The Boy In The Dress, Fing, and Gangsta Granny, the latter of which was turned into a one-hour BBC special in 2013, followed by a sequel starring Sheridan Smith in 2022.
