CD Projekt Red has announced that as of today, nearly six years after its release, “Cyberpunk 2077” has reportedly reached the 40 million copies worldwide sales mark.

The figure includes copies of the game sold separately and in the Ultimate Edition bundle.

The game launched on console and PC on December 20th and clocked up 13.7 million copies sold in its first three weeks. It hit the 20 million mark in September 2022, the 30 million mark in November 2024 and 40 million now.

That has meant it has consistently averaged around 5 million copies sold per year for the last few years; the game’s long tail helped along by the Phantom Liberty DLC launching September 2023 and the acclaimed “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” anime series.

CD Projekt is known for its single-player games selling long after their release, revealing last year that 2015’s “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” had sold as many copies in the most recent five years (2020-2025) as it did in its first five years (2015-2020), 30 million in each and 60 million in total.

“Cyberpunk 2077” cost around $440 million to make and update, that sales figure suggests revenue of over $1 billion in revenue to date. A new game set within the world was announced as having begun pre-production last year.
