Coyote vs. Acme’s First Reactions Are All Saying the Same Thing

The first reactions to the much-awaited Coyote Vs. Acme are coming in ahead of the movie’s theatrical release. Warner Bros. Pictures was initially releasing the movie but later shelved it in favor of a $30 million tax write-off in 2023. Later, Ketchup Entertainment purchased Coyote vs. Acme and set its current release date.

Coyote vs. Acme called a ‘pure delight’ in early reactions

Coyote vs. Acme is drawing mostly positive early reactions from critics after its screening at the San Diego Comic-Con. Andrew J. Salazar of DiscussingFilm shared on X (formerly Twitter), “I can finally say that Coyote vs. Acme is a pure delight. Laugh out loud funny, genuinely clever, and full of heart, it stands firmly next to Roger Rabbit as one of the best live-action/animated hybrid comedies.” Salazar added, “Given its long road to release, this couldn’t be more satisfying.”

Meanwhile, Drew Taylor of TheWrap noted that the movie was “worth the wait,” describing it as “hilarious, surprisingly, deeply heartfelt.” Taylor continued, “How anyone would want to shelve a movie that brings so much joy is beyond me. Get excited. It’s the real deal.”

Matt Neglia of Next Best Picture also shared that Coyote vs. Acme “was worth it.” Neglia went on to praise Samy Burch’s screenplay and claimed that the newest entry in the Looney Tunes franchise has the “same spirit” as Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Space Jam.

Elsewhere, Steve Seigh of Talking Comics hailed Coyote vs. Acme as “delightful” and confirmed that the movie “deserves to be seen on the big screen.”

Additionally, critic Zach Pope called Coyote vs. Acme “easily the best Looney Tunes.”

Notably, Burch developed the script of Coyote vs. Acme from a story by James Gunn, Jeremy Slater, and himself. Dave Green directed the movie. Its star-filled cast includes Will Forte, Lana Condor, John Cena, and Luis Guzmán. The live-action animated hybrid comedy debuts in the U.K. and Ireland on August 21, 2026, before releasing in U.S. theaters on August 28.
