Tragedy is about to befall the cobbles and lives will be changed forever as disaster strikes in Coronation Street, when one resident falls victim to a hit and run involving a stolen car.

Though we’ll be keeping the identity of the unlucky victim tightly under wraps, we can reveal that the beloved character will be left with injuries and face a long road to recovery.

Car theft has been a hot topic on the cobbles ever since Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) got involved with Fiona Morley’s (Sarah Poyzer) car stealing racket to the street, initially using brother Kevin’s (Michael Le Vell) garage as a base.

He’s recently roped in Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey), who in turn has recruited Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne).

In debt to Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford), who’s discovered his affair with his brothers wife, Abi Webster (Sally Carman-Duttine), Carl is desperate to raise the cash and calls Brody to do a theft for him.

Brody and Dylan agree and set about stealing a car for Carl to sell on, though as they drive away in the stolen vehicle, they’re spotted by a horrified George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley)

Meanwhile, Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) is celebrating her 18th birthday. After some harsh words exchanged with her mum, DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers), she heads for a night out with her friends.

As she does, she tries to record a couple of voice notes, one for new flame Dylan, and one for her mum.

She’s unable to complete the second, however, as a stolen car crashes behind her, utterly terrifying the birthday girl.

Later on, word begins to spread across the street that someone has been left in critical condition and has been rushed to hospital.

As the police investigate who could’ve been driving the car, DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) is forced to deliver the news to the terrified family of the victim that the car has been located, but has been completely burnt out.

As the shockwaves continue to reverberate around the Street, accusations begin to fly.

George tells Dylan that he saw him driving a stolen car, though Dylan is quick to bat his accusation away, telling him that he was mistaken.

When Abi visits Carl and is surprised to see Dylan’s name flashing on his phone as he tries to reach him, she presses her secret lover, and he’s forced to reveal that Dylan and Brody have been stealing cars for him, leaving her horrified.

Who was driving the car? Who destroyed the evidence after? Who’s the unfortunate victim?

You’ll have to tune in to find out!
