Colin Farrell‘s reprisal of the titular character in The Penguin has received yet another Season 2 update. The inaugural installment premiered two years ago to a positive critical reception. It also bagged numerous accolades, including a Golden Globe win for Farrell and an Emmy win for his co-star Cristin Milioti. Besides the two, the show features Rhenzy Feliz, Deirdre O’Connell, Carmen Ejogo, Theo Rossi, and Clancy Brown, among others.
Colin Farrell’s The Penguin Season 2 return gets update
HBO chief Casey Bloys offered an uncertain response when asked about Colin Farrell’s return as Oz Cobb in The Penguin Season 2.
While speaking with Variety about HBO Max’s content strategy in the U.K., Bloys noted of the sophomore installment and Farrell’s reprisal, “I would say it’s certainly complicated, but something everybody involved would like to figure out. I just don’t know.”
This update comes months after Bloys revealed that discussions about a potential second season were taking place (via ScreenRant). A month after this, Bloomberg reported that a sophomore installment for The Penguin was in development alongside other DC projects.
Meanwhile, Matt Reeves, who executive-produced the show, told Happy Sad Confused last year in January that he, Farrell, showrunner and creator Lauren LeFranc, and Dylan Clark were discussing doing another season. He stressed that it all boiled down to coming up with the “right idea.”
However, Farrell told Variety a month later that he was in “no rush” and had “no deep desire” to do a second season, even clarifying that it wasn’t “something concerning [him].” Despite this, he was open to making it if it “[worked] in conjunction as a parallel to Matt Reeves’ cinematic universe and [was] a good idea.”
He previously expressed this sentiment in a Deadline interview. However, he was skeptical of a follow-up season in that interaction. “I don’t know if it’s a good idea,” he stated. “I don’t know the way you go back to the trough… And part of me wants to go, ‘Just let it go, people. We got away with it. Leave it as it is.’”
While The Penguin Season 2 isn’t coming anytime soon or in the foreseeable future, fans can catch Farrell’s Penguin in next year’s The Batman Part II, dropping on October 1, 2027.
