A new photo taken from the set of Clayface has fans wondering if the James Watkins movie will introduce Black Canary into the DCU.
DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures’ Clayface is currently in production. Directed by Watkins, the DCU film will see Tom Rhys Harries portray the titular Batman villain, while Mickey 17’s Naomi Ackie also stars.
What do we see in the Clayface set photo?
Originally shared on Instagram by @_adamakik__ and spread by @dcfilmnews, the Clayface set photo shows a sign that simply reads “Black Canary” and “Gotham City.”
This isn’t confirmation that Dinah will be in Clayface, as this could simply just be an Easter egg that may or may not make it into the final cut of the movie. There’s been no official announcement from Watkins, James Gunn, or anyone else involved in the film’s production regarding Black Canary’s presence.
Many DC fans on Twitter, however, are now hoping that they’ll see Black Canary in Clayface.
Additionally, the potential inclusion of Black Canary in Clayface could mean that Oliver Queen, better known as Green Arrow, could be coming to the DCU at some point in the near future, as the two are romantically involved in DC Comics canon.
The script for Clayface comes from Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. The movie is described as a body horror movie about an up-and-coming actor whose face is disfigured by a gangster. Desperate, this actor then undergoes a risky medical procedure that turns him into something else entirely. Clayface is expected to receive an R-rating and has been compared to other films such as The Substance and The Fly.
Produced by Gunn, Peter Safran, Lynn Harris, and The Batman’s Matt Reeves, Clayface will be released in United States theaters on September 11, 2026.
