The Montreal Canadiens have sustained an early blow to their blue line.

Defenceman David Reinbacher is out for four weeks after sustaining a broken hand, the team announced Friday.

Reinbacher left Thursday’s pre-season game against the Maple Leafs in the third period.

The Austrian also suffered a pre-season injury last year, when a knee surgery shelved him for multiple months.

The 20-year-old right-shot was set to compete for a spot on the Canadiens’ back end two years after being drafted fifth overall.

He has yet to make his NHL debut, instead spending last season with the AHL’s Laval Rocket, where he managed two goals and three assists in just 10 games.

Now, he’s back on the shelf yet again.
