Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) has been hit with constant bad news throughout 2026 so far, and things aren’t going to get any better for him.
Way back in January, the character was told that a lump had been discovered and it needed to be tested for prostate cancer. This test was positive, which meant Cain had to undergo a vital operation.
He had the surgery, and then spent time trying to accept that he didn’t have full control over his body anymore. Recently, Cain went back to the hospital for a progress update, but was sadly told that there is a high chance the cancer has spread.
Cain’s surgeon told him that he needed treatment, and how there’s a possibility that his current side effects will become permanent as a result.
Not wanting to deal with the ramifications – which include incontinence and impotence – Cain concluded pretty sharpish that he didn’t want the radiotherapy.
In upcoming episodes of the ITV soap, disaster strikes for a hugely loved family member as news spreads that they’ve also got cancer.
Interestingly enough, the development of a fellow Wishing Well resident also being diagnosed leaves Cain thinking about his future, and his decision to not have his treatment.
Prior to this discovery, there’s drama up at Home Farm as Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn) has discovered that Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) was responsible for his mum’s death.
As Kim Tate (Claire King) and Joe try to reason with Kyle, Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) arrives.
The youngster feels overwhelmed with everything that’s going on and legs it. He’s spotted by Cain and Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb), who can’t work out why Kyle seems so shaken.
When Cain arrives at Home Farm, it isn’t long until he unleashes his anger on Graham and the Tates, telling them to stay away from Kyle.
The next day, following another argument with his son, Cain spots smoke pouring out of the shed near Wishing Well. He rushes outside, pointing out to Kyle that because of him, Monty the dog is trapped inside of the burning building.
Cain saves Monty, who is then treated at the vets by Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt).
A while later, Paddy visits the family and tells them that Monty has cancer.
Collecting the pooch from the vets, Cain takes him off on a walk to decide what to do. He cannot help but realise the irony in how much he wants to help Monty, but won’t help himself in the same scenario.
As Cain ponders over his words, what will he do next?
