Brittany Packnett Cunningham Talks Racial Justice and Voting Power on Morning Hustle
Activist, educator, and Campaign Zero co-founder Brittany Packnett Cunningham sat down with the Morning Hustle crew to break down the stories shaping our community right now.
Nolan Wells and the Grand Jury Decision
Packnett Cunningham didn’t hold back on the Nolan Wells case. An 18-year-old is dead, and a grand jury filed no charges. She reminded listeners that grand juries “can indict a ham sandwich,” calling this a deliberate choice. Announcing it on his mother’s birthday, she said, only added insult to injury. She believes the evidence exists, but tight lips and a broken system are protecting the truth.
Converse, Nike, and the KKK Imagery Backlash
On the Chuck 70X ad controversy, she was blunt: whether they meant it or not, the impact matters. Since Black culture made Nike cool, she argued, brands “can’t be fluent enough in Black culture to make billions off of us and then claim to be illiterate when you harm us.” Her message to companies—respect the story or don’t sell the product.
Karmelo Anthony’s Legal Fight
She confirmed Black lawyers have united to protect Karmelo Anthony, a young man punished for defending himself in an impossible situation. Keep his name trending, she urged, and show up when the family calls.
Hangings and Calls for a Federal Probe
Invoking ancestor Ida B. Wells, she pushed for anti-lynching legislation that names these acts as anti-Black hate crimes. Black people don’t hang themselves, she stressed, and we must keep pushing this conversation forward.
