The Milwaukee Brewers moved within one victory of the World Series on Wednesday night, defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-2 at Dodger Stadium to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the National League Championship Series. The win puts the Brewers on the verge of sweeping the Dodgers, a dramatic turnaround from the 2025 NLCS where Milwaukee was the team on the receiving end of a sweep.
Milwaukee set the tone immediately. Rookie Jackson Chourio hit a home run on the first pitch of the game from Dodgers starter Blake Snell, quietening the home crowd before many had reached their seats. While Los Angeles managed to fight back and briefly hold the lead, a relentless seventh-inning rally ultimately broke the game open and potentially the Dodgers’ season.
Back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning secured the lead for Milwaukee.
The Seventh Inning Surge
The defining moment of Game 3 arrived in the top of the seventh inning with the score tied. Jake Bauers engaged Blake Snell in a grueling 11-pitch at-bat, fouling off several competitive pitches before finally driving a go-ahead home run into the seats. The blast appeared to deflate the Los Angeles dugout and ended Snell’s night.
Garrett Mitchell followed immediately with a solo shot of his own, marking back-to-back home runs that extended the lead to 4-2. The Brewers added two more insurance runs later in the frame to secure the final margin. DL Hall earned the win in relief, while Snell was charged with the loss after the seventh-inning collapse.
Offensive Stagnation for Los Angeles
The Dodgers’ offense is currently stalled by a slump from the top of the order. Shohei Ohtani, who has not homered in 24 consecutive games, went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Game 3. This postseason, Ohtani is just 3-for-20, mirroring a team-wide struggle to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
The Dodgers offense struggled to find rhythm as they fell behind 3-0 in the series.
Historic Mountain for Los Angeles
The Dodgers now face a statistical mountain that has proven nearly impossible to climb in Major League Baseball history. Only one team, the 2004 Boston Red Sox, has ever recovered from a 3-0 deficit to win a best-of-seven series.
For the Dodgers franchise, this marks only the second time they have trailed 3-0 in a best-of-seven series. The only other occurrence was the 1966 World Series, where they were ultimately swept by the Baltimore Orioles.
The Brewers will look to complete the sweep and punch their ticket to the World Series in Game 4. The matchup is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026, at 7 p.m. CT at Dodger Stadium. Should the Dodgers manage to extend the series, Game 5 would also be held in Los Angeles before the series moves back to Milwaukee.
