Bonnie Tyler’s reps have given a fresh update about the Welsh singer after she was taken to hospital in Portugal at the start of May.

The Total Eclipse Of The Heart singer was rushed to hospital near her home in Faro around a month ago, to undergo emergency intestinal surgery.

A week later, it was confirmed she’d been placed in an induced coma “to aid her recovery”, with her digital team sharing a new statement on her official website last week, following speculation about her condition on social media.

“I thought it’d be good to write a little reminder not to trust random pages on social media which are sharing (often AI-generated) photos and false stories about what’s been happening,” the update read.

“Bonnie remains in Portugal, which is the best place for her at the moment as her care continues.”

The Grammy nominee’s reps added that they have been “taking comfort in the fact that so many people have written in wishing her well and saying they’d been in similar situations”.

Her team also asked Bonnie’s fans to be patient as they await more news about the star’s health.

“It seems like it’s the kind of thing that can take a good long while, so patience will be key,” they added, insisting: “When there is any further news of Bonnie’s condition then we will issue another statement, but ask that the media cease to speculate or publish wild rumours, which simply serve to upset her family, friends, and many fans, and ask again for privacy and decency at this difficult time.”

On 6 May, the Holding Out For A Hero singer’s team released a statement on Instagram informing fans that “Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery”.

The following week, they offered an update on the Grammy-nominated star, confirming she was in an induced coma.

Bonnie’s team later said that she was still “seriously ill but stable” in hospital, noting that doctors were “positive that she will make a full recovery.”

The performer, who turned 75 earlier this year, had been due to tour Europe later this year to mark 50 years since the release of her 1976 breakthrough hit Lost In France, which charted across Europe.
