Bob-omb Blast Joins Mario Kart World Battle Mode via Patch

Nintendo shared a free update for Mario Kart World and, after downloading the patch, we can find Bob-omb Blast as an option in multiplayer Battle mode. The Bullet Bill item ended up buffed as well, while the Boomerang Flower is nerfed. It is immediately available, and a Japanese trailer shows what to expect from the mode.

This marks the third Mario Kart game in which Bob-omb Blast appeared as a Battle mode, as it appeared in Double Dash on the GameCube and 8 Deluxe on the Switch before showing up in World. Everyone gets the Bob-omb items from Item Boxes and must toss them at others in an attempt to pop the six balloons attached to their vehicles. You can hold up to 10 at a time. Nintendo also noted in the patch notes that holding the trigger affects the distance they are thrown. As the video shows, getting caught in the blast radius and losing your balloons knocks you out.

In the case of the two item adjustments, there are a handful of alterations to the Boomerang Flower and Bullet Bill in Mario Kart World. The range is reduced on the boomerang. It also seems like it no longer is available for a period of time. The patch notes mention a limitation on “the number of consecutive throws,” which means it might work more like it did in Mario Kart 8 and Deluxe. With Bullet Bill, it will be faster on Bowser’s Castle, Rainbow Road, and Starview Peak and all courses’ shortcuts will be easier to trigger with it.

Mario Kart World is available for the Switch 2
