Good quality sleep is an investment well worth investing in, and while a supportive mattress, blackout curtains and your PJ’s can make a big difference, the bedding you sleep under can have a significant impact.

Which is exactly why, when I spotted Simba’s bedding collection, I couldn’t wait to try it out for myself. I’m a light sleeper, love a lie-in and would sleep wrapped in a duvet year-round.

The sleep brand is already well-known and loved for its mattresses, but does its bedding bundles measure up, too?

First up, let’s run through what’s on offer. There are six fabrics to choose from: Egyptian cotton, brushed tencel, cool linen, soft muslin, cotton percale, and waffle cotton, in sizes ranging from single to super king.

You can find pillowcases, duvet covers, and sheets available to buy separately, or as a bundle, which is what I’ve been testing over the last few months. Prices of individual items start from £36 for a pillowcase pair, while the bundles in super king can set you back up to £249.

Since earlier this year, I’ve been sleeping under the Brushed Tencel Bedding Bundle, which contains a duvet cover, fitted sheet and two pillowcases for my king-size bed.

Given the bizarre spring weather we’ve been experiencing, I’ve had to cope with surprisingly cold nights and hot temperature spikes. Here’s my verdict.

What’s so good about Simba’s brushed tencel bedding?

Tencel is a fabric made from wood pulp – don’t worry, there’s no fear of getting splinters – and I specifically picked it for its cool, breathable softness, which is ideal for hot sleepers like me.

It comes in seven colours too, ranging from pure white to midnight blue, sage green to soft oat, but I pick the neutral light cappuccino, which adds warmth without being too distinctive. I have a dark blue velvet headboard, so I wanted something that wouldn’t clash.

Could expensive bedding be the secret to a good night’s sleep? (Picture: Metro/Louise Whitbread)

Is Simba’s bedding bundle worth the price?

To cut a long story short, yes. Of course, it’s expensive at £219, but for a good night’s sleep, I’m happy to make that splurge. If you had it for five years, the cost-per-day would be as little as 12p – that’s practically a bargain.

The tencel fabric is so soft and smooth that it never feels sticky when the temperature heats up, and it keeps me warm when it’s cold. When I came home from holiday, it was so relaxing to sink into.

The fitted sheet never rolled up and off the mattress (my all-time pet peeve), even with my thick mattress topper, nor did it bunch up at the corners.

Last but not least, it washes well without bobbling, even if you don’t use fabric conditioner, and the creases come out naturally. I am far too lazy to iron my bedding, and it still has a luxurious feel.
