Bayern Munich are set to be without Raphael Guerreiro for Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Chelsea, according to reports.

The injury blow is ‘bitter’ for Bayern, Bild have reported, because they already have Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito ruled out.

That means the German side do not currently have a fully-fit recognised left-back for their opening game in the 2025-26 Champions League.

With Guerreiro, Davies and Ito all unavailable, Kompany may be forced to use Bayern right-back Josip Stanisic on the left against Chelsea.

German champions Bayern confirmed on their official website on Monday that Guerreiro has a ‘minor injury to his abdominal muscles’.

Guerreiro suffered the injury in Bayern’s 5-0 victory over Hamburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

The Portugal international, 31, came off the bench at the start of the second half but then had to be replaced in the 63rd minute of the match.

Guerreiro has since undergone an MRI scan, Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany revealed.

Following the scan, Guerreiro is now set to miss at least two games, with the defender ruled out of clashes against Chelsea and Hoffenheim.

Guerreiro joined Bayern from Borussia Dortmund in 2023 and he’s played a total of 70 games for the Bavarian club to date.

Chelsea are featuring in the Champions League for the first time since the 2022-23 campaign this season after a resurgence under Enzo Maresca.

But Bayern have the edge for Wednesday’s clash at the Allianz Arena, according to Opta’s supercomputer, with the Bundesliga side given a 54.9 per cent win probability against Chelsea.

Bayern have only lost one of their last 11 home games against English sides in the Champions League.

In last season’s Champions League, Bayern reached the quarter-finals, where they lost to eventual runners-up Inter Milan over two legs.

Bayern most recently won the Champions League title in 2020, the sixth time they have been crowned champions of Europe.

Chelsea, meanwhile, who won the Club World Cup this summer, have landed two Champions League trophies in 2012 and 2021 respectively.

The Blues are hoping to get back to winning ways on Wednesday after a 2-2 Premier League draw with Brentford last time out.
