Neil Henderson, the guitarist from the iconic pop rock band Bay City Rollers, has died aged 73.

Neil had reportedly suffered from a stroke a few years ago and had been ‘ill for some time’ and was still ‘fighting to recover’.

The musician was a member of the band from 1970 to 1972, performing on debut chart single Keep On Dancing.

He left before the band hit worldwide fame with Rollermania, going on to join Middle of the Road, which saw chart success with Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep.

The Scottish band described Henderson as ‘our original lead guitarist, songwriter and friend’.

They penned: ‘A statement read: “We are sorry to have to announce the death of Neil Henderson, our original lead guitarist, songwriter and friend.

‘Neil had been ill for some time and was fighting to recover from a stroke a few years ago.

‘We wish to send our sincere condolences to Heather and Shona, his two daughters, and all his family and friends.

‘His memory will live on with all who had the pleasure of sharing the stage with him as will his music.’
