Avengers Endgame: Encore’s Box Office Already Way Ahead of Primetime After Thursday Previews

Disney and Marvel Studios’ remastered re-release of Avengers: Endgame is off to a strong start at the domestic box office. The superhero epic returned to theaters Thursday night with preview screenings, quickly outgrossing Robert Pattinson’s new satirical thriller, Primetime.

According to initial figures reported by Deadline, Avengers Endgame: Encore earned $3.8 million from Thursday previews. Primetime, which A24 distributes, brought in $2.7 million from its own early screenings.

The preview result puts the re-release ahead of Primetime heading into the weekend. The new version includes four minutes of additional footage designed to build anticipation for Avengers: Doomsday, particularly the arrival of Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor von Doom. 

The added time has also given longtime MCU fans another reason to revisit the conclusion of the Infinity Saga. The re-release is playing on premium large-format screens. More than 1,300 locations are carrying the movie, while ticket pre-sales remain strong ahead of the wider weekend rollout.

Avengers Endgame: Encore builds momentum ahead of key weekend numbers

The early preview results come as several major releases compete for attention at the domestic box office. Tracking data prior to the weekend indicated that Avengers Endgame: Encore was projected to earn between $25 million and $30 million during its opening weekend.

Sony and Constantin Film’s Resident Evil is also entering the weekend with significant momentum. The film’s second-weekend projections currently range from $21 million to $24 million, putting it within reach of the Marvel re-release.

Two more releases are also entering the market. Brad Pitt’s Heart of the Beast and Pattinson’s Primetime are each tracking in the high-teens range, with projected openings of approximately $17 million to $20 million.

The Thursday results do not determine the final rankings, but they provide an early snapshot of the weekend box-office race. For Marvel, the $3.8 million preview haul gives Avengers Endgame: Encore a substantial starting point as it attempts to turn a familiar blockbuster into another major theatrical success.
