Avengers: Doomsday’s Kevin Feige Hints Who MCU Movie’s Main Character Will Be

Marvel boss Kevin Feige has dropped a major hint about which hero will carry the narrative of Avengers: Doomsday. The upcoming MCU crossover will bring together several Marvel superheroes across multiple franchises.

In a recent profile with Vanity Fair centered on Florence Pugh, Kevin Feige indicated that her MCU role, Yelena Belova, will anchor the sprawling story of Doomsday. The film releases the same day as Dune: Part Three, in which Pugh plays Princess Irulan Corrino.

When the interviewer suggested that her Princess Irulan would have a bigger role in Dune: Part Three than she did in the second film, Pugh gently pushed back, offering only a hedged “…Yeah. Ish.”

Beyond the sci-fi saga, the Academy Award-nominated actress played Yelena Belova in Black Widow and Thunderbolts. In the MCU, Yelena is the adoptive sister of Natasha Romanoff, played by Scarlett Johansson.

Why Yelena Belova may be key to Avengers: Doomsday

Feige’s comments point to Yelena becoming a central figure as the MCU heads into its next Avengers chapter. The character’s presence has grown across Hawkeye and Thunderbolts*, and she became the leader of a new government-backed Avengers team. Doomsday now appears to be building on that momentum rather than treating her as a supporting role.

The character also serves as the audience’s grounded POV by giving a human weight to the cosmic-driven story. As the leader of New Avengers, she brings her superhero faction to the narrative, joined by other major factions like Sam Wilson’s team, Fantastic Four, and X-Men.

Florence also appeared as Yelena in the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where she helps the web-slinger with the info on the telepath attacking DODC.

While she is reported to have a bigger role in Doomsday, the report does not reveal how much screen time Yelena will receive or explain how the movie will structure its large cast.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to release on December 18, 2026.
