Faith No More are seemingly teasing a live return set for 2027.
READ MORE: Faith No More are back. Here’s why you should care about the wild and witty progenitors of alt-metalThe alt-metal icons have been largely inactive for the last decade since the release of their comeback album ‘Sol Invictus’ in 2015. Since that album dropped, they played their last live shows in 2016, and have subsequently cancelled various tour plans in the years since.
Now though, they appear to be gearing up for a new announcement – getting fans talking by sharing a photo of a crowd at a gig and simply writing “2027” over the top.
No further details have been shared, but the post has immediately got fans talking, with most now suspecting that a full tour could be on the cards for next year.
Since their 2016 shows concluded, the band shared plans to hit the road again in 2020, but went on to scrap all of the shows due to COVID-19.
Other plans emerged in 2021 when venues started to reopen, but these were also cancelled ahead of the start date, with frontman Mike Patton citing mental health reasons. He later revealed he had been diagnosed with agoraphobia during the pandemic.
There seemed to be little chance of a reunion anytime soon too, up until now, with Patton recently opening up about the extended hiatus of Faith No More and saying that he didn’t “see it as a sad thing”.
When asked on the Kyle Meredith With… podcast if he felt a “sense of closure” after the 2016 tour, the singer shared: “I didn’t really think so at the time, but, yeah, maybe. I think that we all kind of felt it, but it was unspoken.”
“It’s funny: when you’ve been in a band or a musical situation for a period of time, you always, in the back of your head, you’re kind of thinking, ‘Well, maybe this is it.’ And I don’t mind that feeling,” he added. “I don’t see it as a sad thing. I see it as being present and being able to really appreciate it while it’s happening.”
Faith No More never officially confirmed a split since their 2021 tour was cancelled, but other band members have spoken out about how hopes for another tour were looking slim in recent times.
Guitarist Roddy Bottum spoke about the future of the band and said that they were in a “really weird spot” last year. “I can’t really tell you what’s going on. I don’t know myself. I get different information from people… and I’m in the band,” he said.
A similar stance was shared by drummer Mike Bordin last spring, when he claimed that he and some bandmates were open to the idea of playing live, but Patton was allegedly “unwilling to do shows with us”.
As well as fronting in Faith No More since 1989 – taking on the role after initial frontman Chuck Mosley left the line-up – Patton has also been a part of other bands including Mr Bungle, Fantômas, and Tomahawk.
The latter recently announced details of their first tour in 13 years, which will take place across the US this summer. Dates for that kick off in Nashville next month, and the run also sees Patton and co. reunite with longtime labelmates Melvins for the first time since 2003.
Patton has also recently kicked off his tour with Avett Brothers, and also joined forces with Jehnny Beth for new single ‘Look At Me’.
