It’s impossible to dispute that the traditional cop drama/police procedural is one of the most popular genres on TV, if not the most popular. Whether it’s long-running network shows like NCIS or Criminal Minds, or newer streaming hits like Task on HBO, every network and streamer is always looking for its next smash cop show. However, with a market like the police procedural that’s so oversaturated, not every new show or spin-off is going to be a catch. Even a show like The Rookie (starring Nathan Fillion), which has been a smash hit for over 10 years now, tried and failed to launch a spin-off several years ago with The Rookie: Feds. The franchise will give it another go soon, though, with the release of The Rookie: North, starring tenured The Boys veteran Karen Fukuhara.
