Amazon Prime Video quietly adds ‘grisly’ action thriller with impressive Rotten Tomatoes score

Amazon Prime Video bosses have quietly added an ‘underrated’ action film with an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score.

Jack Quaid led the way as bank employee Nate in acclaimed 2025 thriller Novocaine, who has the inability to feel any pain.

This trick comes in surprisingly handy when he sets out to rescue his colleague and love interest Sherry (Amber Midthunder) after she is kidnapped by robbers.

Dan Berk and Robert Olsen served as directors, while Ray Nicholson, Matt Walsh, Betty Gabriel and Jacob Batalon rounded out the cast.

The flick topped the box office when it was released in March and, thankfully, we can relive all of the chaos as it is now available to stream on Amazon Prime.

It has been well received by fans and critics alike, and currently commands a Rotten Tomatoes score of 84%.

Heaping praise on Jack and co, Ansom M wrote: ‘Novocaine is genial enough in its extreme violence to endear audiences with the capacity to endure it. It goes from fun to sicko fun.’

Shawna R said: ‘Novocaine is grisly but fun, intense but sweet, and preposterously entertaining.’

‘[Novocaine] has a lot of heart and is considerably more wholesome than you might expect from a movie that features its protagonist deep frying his own hand,’ Daniel Z penned.

‘Novocaine is a darkly funny, twisted ride with just the right amount of chaos,’ Oran B agreed.

‘Jack Quaid was great and the movie was filled with some intense, adrenaline inducing action sequences.’

The official synopsis reads: ‘When the girl of his dreams (Amber Midthunder) is kidnapped, everyman Nate (Jack Quaid) turns his inability to feel pain into an unexpected strength in his fight to get her back.’

Jack previously opened up about the intense action scenes, teasing that he ‘got into the best shape’ he’s ever been in, in order to pull off the gritty role.

‘I often think of it like an action movie for horror fans. That’s how violent and gory it is,’ he told CBS News.

‘I think what’s so great about it is we contrast that with this awesome romance between Sherry and Nate.

‘If you don’t believe in them as a couple, then the action’s not going to work for you.’
