Amid ongoing casting speculation, writer Steven Knight offered a carefully guarded update that hinted at major progress while revealing almost nothing about the project itself.

According to Deadline’s interview at the 2026 BAFTA TV Awards, screenwriter Steven Knight shared a brief update about the next James Bond film.

Knight confirmed work on the project continues under Amazon MGM Studios. He said, “It’s really, good. It’s going incredibly well.” Knight also added, “We’ve got the best people. I can’t wait for people to see.” He refused to discuss screenplay details during the interview.

Knight avoided revealing story information or production specifics about the upcoming Bond installment. When asked whether he had completed the script, he responded, “I can’t talk about it. Not a word. Not a word.” He also addressed Amazon MGM Studios’ involvement with the franchise. Knight said, “Everything is going fantastic,” while discussing the studio partnership on the film.

The next James Bond movie will become the franchise’s 28th installment. It will feature director Denis Villeneuve and writer Steven Knight. Reports state Villeneuve will begin work after completing Dune: Part Three. Amazon MGM Studios has not announced a release date or official casting details for the film.

Recent industry speculation linked Jacob Elordi to the role of the next 007 agent. During The Rest is Entertainment podcast, Guardian reporter Marina Hyde said Elordi had “kind of moved into pole position.” Hyde also stated, “Nobody has signed anything yet.” The actor became widely known through Euphoria and recently received an award for portraying Frankenstein’s monster in Guillermo del Toro’s 2025 adaptation.

Amazon MGM Studios previously confirmed that executives will take time selecting the next Bond actor.
