In 1972, the late Kathryn Hays (r., pictured with Gillian Spencer as Jennifer Sullivan) made her As The World Turns debut as Kim Sullivan, who later wed Bob and became Hughes. The beloved star, who passed away in 2022, remained with the series through to its cancellation in 2010.

In 1983, All My Children’s Tad Martin (Michael E. Knight) secretly hooked up with Marian Colby (Jennifer Bassey, l.) — even though he was also seeing Marian's daughter, Liza (Marcy Walker). The infamous storyline more than earned Tad his nickname: Tad the Cad. Reflecting on the plot — and the humor he injected into it — Knight told Soap Opera Digest in 2011, "Tad kind of came on as God's vengeance on Liza Colby, this guy who gets around and is very good with women and stuff, and I was sort of intimidated by that. I mean, that was not my story in college! So I kind of felt leery of playing straight: 'Ooh, baby, you want me, baby, you all want me.' And I went to Jackie [Babbin, who was then serving as executive producer] and I said, 'Well, if he's gotta be despicable, if you've gotta hate the guy, could he at least be funny?' "

In 2011, Victor Lord, Jr. (Trevor St. John) was declared dead on One Life To Live. Reports of his death proved to be greatly exaggerated, as when the show went off the air in 2012, Victor's twin, Todd Manning, was arrested for his murder — but a struggling Victor was then shown to be alive and in the clutches of the dangerous Allison Perkins. St. John reprised the role of Victor in 2013 on OLTL's short-lived Internet reboot.

In 2020 on General Hospital, Alexis Davis and Neil Byrne (Joe Flanigan) gave in to their feelings for one another and made love at her house. Their night of passion would prove to be the last time they were intimate, because in the morning, Alexis made a horrifying discovery: the therapist was unresponsive in her bed! Soon, he was declared dead, leaving Alexis confused and shattered. Down the line, it would be revealed that Neil's death was a murder — one committed by Willow's adoptive mother, Harmony Miller.

In 2023 on Young and Restless, Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) was taken by surprise when her husband, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) named her as CEO of Newman Media. That same day, Victor appointed Audra Charles as COO of the company.
