The release of new footage from The Witcher Season 4 has sparked strong reactions, with many fans still voicing support for Henry Cavill despite Liam Hemsworth’s debut as Geralt of Rivia. The upcoming season continues the fantasy saga and highlights Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer as they fight to survive and reunite on a war-torn Continent.

Some viewers expressed dissatisfaction with the recasting. One wrote, “It looks alright I suppose but it’s not Geralt. Liam is a fine actor but the shoes he is trying to fill are too big. Cavill is Geralt. Liam is discount Geralt. No matter, you all butchered the lore anyway.” Another posted, “We. Want. Henry.”

Other reactions combined criticism of the casting decision with acknowledgment of Hemsworth’s effort. “Still very pissed about dropping Henry but it doesn’t look awful,” one viewer commented.

These comments follow Netflix’s October 2022 announcement that Henry Cavill would leave the series after three seasons. At the time, Cavill stated on Instagram, “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4.”

He continued, “In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf.” Cavill added, “Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”

Hemsworth responded, “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”

Season 4 will continue adapting Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels and introduce new cast members, including Laurence Fishburne as Regis, when it premieres October 30, 2025.
