While Alien: Earth has introduced several nightmarish creatures to the franchise’s lore, one in particular, the eye monster, seems to have truly horrified and thrilled fans. The entity, known as Trypanohyncha Ocellus, aka T. Ocellus, was unleashed when a Weyland-Yutani ship called the Maginot crashed-landed in New Siam.

Fans are really impressed with Alien: Earth’s eye creature

Many Alien: Earth fans have given glowing praise to the new eye monster in the show. The creature first appeared in the series premiere, floating in a containment unit on the Maginot, and its horrifying potential became quickly apparent in the show.

@RealLifeRyan_ took to X (formerly Twitter) after the fifth episode aired on FX and FX on Hulu yesterday and shared a screenshot of the eye monster. “Best episode of Alien Earth so far. If you expanded episode 5 it could’ve been its own movie,” they wrote in the caption.

Several other fans seem to agree with what @RealLifeRyan_ posted in the comment section. For instance, @OrrShayne posted, “It belongs in theaters its so good.”

The eye monster has multiple irises, pupils, and pink tentacles, and is larger than a human eyeball. The fact that it closely resembles a part of the human body enhances its unsettling qualities. It appears to have the ability to take control of the nervous system of various creatures by forcefully removing one of their eyeballs and placing itself in the socket.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, series creator Noah Hawley reflected on the disturbing scene in Episode 4 where the eye monster demonstrates its abilities on a sheep. In the scene in question, Boy Kavalier (Samuel Blenkin) and Kirsh (Timothy Olyphant) perform an experiment in which they let the eye monster attack the sheep. Hawley called it “one of the more disturbing things you’ll watch all year.”

The screenwriter compared the “relentlessness” of this creature to that of the facehugger. He later added, “Everyone has issues with eyeballs. It just felt like it’s designed just to play into that genetic revulsion.”

New episodes of Alien: Earth come out weekly on Tuesdays.
