A major supermarket has just announced a major expansion plan over the next two years – including 80 new Aldi stores.

The supermarket says it aims to spend £1.6billion in the next two years, with the first results of that investment 21 new shops in the next 13 weeks.

Aldi was ranked the UK’s cheapest supermarket by Which? in 2024 and in August 2025, and it hopes the new shop openings will bring ‘high-quality, affordable groceries to millions more British families’.

It comes as the supermarket’s financial results for 2024 were released, showing sales had increased to £18.1billion and taking its market share to 10.8%, overtaking Asda to become the UK’s third largest grocer.

Meanwhile, its profits fell from £552.9million in 2023 to £435.5million last financial year, which Aldi says is because it’s continued to lower prices for customers, increase pay, and invest in infrastructure.

Currently Aldi has 1,060 stores, and the supermarket says it plans to reach 1,500 shops across the UK.

Part of this expansion includes 80 new shops which Aldi hopes to open in 2026-27 – the first 21 of which are set to open before the end of this year.

Earlier this year Aldi shared its ‘priority locations’ to open new shops as the supermarket announced it planned to spend £650million this year.

Giles Hurley, CEO for Aldi UK and Ireland, said: ‘Shoppers are still finding things difficult and that’s why we’re staying laser focused on doing what Aldi does best – offering customers great quality products at unbeatable prices.

‘Nobody else is making the same commitment to everyday low prices – no clubs, no gimmicks, no tricks – just prices our customers can trust and quality they can depend on.

‘Since we opened our first UK store over 35 years ago, we’ve brought high-quality, affordable groceries to almost 800 towns and cities, but there are hundreds more communities that don’t have an Aldi nearby.

‘We’re more determined than ever to meet that demand, and that’s why we’re investing a record £1.6billion over the next two years, to bring Aldi prices closer to millions more customers.’

Where are the new Aldi stores?

So far, Aldi has only revealed nine of the 21 new shop locations.

These new branches will be opening in:

Deeside Nelson Eastbourne Watford Waterbrook Pershore Shoreditch Kirkintilloch Billericay

Their opening dates have also not been confirmed – all we know so far is that they are set to open in the next 13 weeks.
