After His Last Netflix Bomb, Noah Baumbach's Comedy Return Garners Praise on Rotten Tomatoes

Noah Baumbach is back in biz. Thanks to the arrival of his latest comedy drama, Jay Kelly, the writer and director behind such favorites as Frances Ha and Marriage Story, has another hit on his hands. The upswing comes with the first round of reviews following the title’s world premiere yesterday at the Venice International Film Festival, where it nabbed a nomination for the Golden Lion. According to that first wave, the film holds a promising 83% critics’ approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes — a far cry from the 64% that the filmmaker’s last project, White Noise, earned back in 2022. With a theatrical release set for November 14 and a streaming premiere slated for December 5, we’re still quite a ways off from uncovering what audiences think of Baumbach’s latest venture, but this is certainly a good start.
