Adrian Newey Only in Bologna for a Special Visit to Ferrari Facility at Mugello

1 week ago 1

Adrian Newey is currently the hottest property in the F1 market after making the ever-so-dominant RB20. The Red Bull CTO has recently been all over the news for rumors of him wanting to leave his current team. There is a power struggle within Red Bull with rumors of Christian Horner wanting to put Adrian Newey on the RB17 Hypercar, which sparked the idea of the mastermind engineer leaving.

Considering how much in demand Newey has been recently, many teams are out to sign him to their team. This includes Ferrari and Aston Martin with the Prancing Horse being a step ahead to convince him. A recent spotting of Newey at the Bologna airport has sparked talks of him being interested in the Maranello outfit, and now we have a significant update on the situation.

Adrian Newey in the Ferrari Mugello circuit

Following the start of the season, Red Bull’s situation has reportedly prompted Adrian Newey to consider his options. After being spotted at Bologna, it was reported that Newey went to check out the Mugello track and spent a day there. The Red Bull CTO was confirmed to be at Mugello by race car driver Thomas Biagi in a post on Instagram taken at the Ferrari track.

The post on Instagram was captioned, “Let’s hope that one day Mister Newey arrives at Ferrari.” However, this is not the first time that the British engineer has visited the Mugello circuit as he was there last March on the 25th for the classic free test for cars hosted by KR Motorsports. The Briton jumped to the occasion and decided to participate.

While there is no confirmation of Newey joining Ferrari, the signs show that he is interested in joining the team. Ferrari has been after Adrian Newey ever since he joined Red Bull in 2006. Around 2 decades later, will the RB20 mastermind leave the Milton Keynes outfit for the Maranello one? As the sport is moving to a greener culture, Lewis Hamilton is at the forefront of the moment. However, Adrian Newey has another take on the matter altogether.

Adrian Newey wants V10 engines in 2026

Considering the usage of carbon-emitting fuel in motorsports, the Just Stop Oil Group protested during the British Grand Prix back in 2023. Despite the nature of the protest taking an undelightful turn with protestors making their way to the circuits, Lewis Hamilton a supporter of a greener future, joined the show with “peaceful protests”. But this is not something Adrian Newey prefers being a fan of the early 2000s era of F1.

According to Newey, “It’s where all the conundrums come in… I think most people would say, from a spectacle point of view, you probably want a high-revving V10, normally aspirated. We all kind of pine after the V10s and even the V8s of the 2000s.” This makes it clear that Newey believes that the stronger engines that drink petrol are the way to go.

Explaining that the carbon emissions from the sport are “tiny” he believes that the era of the V8s and 10s should be back. With that said, do you think these developments are going to lead to Ferrari bagging Newey? Was the visit to the Mugello track just for entertainment or some serious business deals?
