Adam Driver wants to continue playing Kylo Ren in the Star Wars universe. However, his real future as a movie villain should be with the James Bond franchise.
In the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Driver played Kylo Ren, born Ben Solo, the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa. Kylo trained to be a Jedi under Luke Skywalker, but he eventually turned to the dark side and became one of the trilogy’s main villains. Ren’s story ended in The Rise of Skywalker when he sacrificed himself so that Rey could live.
Despite dying in the ninth Star Wars movie, Driver and Steven Soderbergh pitched a spin-off movie called The Hunt for Ben Solo. While Lucasfilm loved the idea, Bob Iger, the former Disney CEO, and Alan Bergman, chairman of Disney Entertainment Studios, said no, killing the movie.
Instead of exploring Ben Solo’s future, Driver should play another villain instead, preferably one in the James Bond franchise.
Why should Adam Driver be the villain in James Bond?
The James Bond franchise has a long history of casting Academy Award-winning and nominated actors as villains. The last three villains — Javier Bardem, Christoph Waltz, and Rami Malek — all won Oscars before taking on 007. Though Driver hasn’t won an Oscar, he has received two nominations.
Kalshi, a prediction betting site, has Driver as one of the favorites to play the villain in Denis Villeneuve’s James Bond movie. Driver is listed alongside the likes of Cillian Murphy, Idris Elba, and Barry Keoghan as actors who should be considered for the role.
The sequel trilogy had many problems that led to its downfall, especially in The Rise of Skywalker. Despite Kylo Ren’s polarizing ending, Driver’s performance, up until those final moments, was one of the best parts of the trilogy. Driver helped usher in a new archetype of villain for Star Wars. Kylo Ren was a tragic figure with abandonment issues, teenage rage, and parental baggage, an emotionally complex character that stood out thanks to Driver’s acting prowess.
Bond is undergoing a reset at Amazon MGM Studios as Villeneuve tries to find the next 007. Driver experienced a similar situation with The Force Awakens, the first Star Wars movie following a nine-year hiatus. He clearly thrived as a villain in the first movie of a new era. The same thing should happen in the next James Bond.
